Second Grade Essential Learnings

First Semester Reading & Language Arts

1.  Studentswill be able to write complete sentences with correct punctuation.
2.  Students will identify the maintopic/idea of a multi-paragraph text.
3.  Students will identify and possess  knowledge of short and long vowels.
4.  Students will read and decode2-syllable words.
5.  Students will read grade-level text  with purpose and understanding.
6.  Students will recall information from  their experiences to answer a question.
7.  Students will follow agreed-upon rules  for discussions, such as listening to others with care, and speaking one at a  time about the topics and texts under discussion.
8.  Students will follow 2-step oral  directions.
9.  Students will use sentence-level  context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.

Second Semester Reading & Language Arts

1.  Students  will be able to write complete sentences that form a paragraph with correct  punctuation and capitalization.
2.  Students will identify the maintopic/idea of a multi-paragraph text.
3.  Students will identify and possess  knowledge of short and long vowels.
4.  Students will read and decode3-syllable words.
5.  Students will read grade-level text  with purpose and understanding.
6.  Students will recall information from  their experiences to answer questions and create their own questions.
7.  Students will follow agreed-upon rules  for discussions, such as listening to others with care, and speaking one at a  time about the topics and texts under discussion.
8. Students will follow 2 to 3-steporal directions.
9.  Students will use sentence-level  context clues to discover the meaning of a word or phrase.
